Monmouth 2013 Lacrosse Schedule Features 10 Home Games

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J.- Monmouth University has announced the 2013 schedule. The slate features 10 home contests, including six of seven at Kessler Field to open the season.

"We have a strong non-conference schedule and have a challenge ahead to win more games in the early season," said head coach Denise Wescott. "I think the Northeast Conference is getting stronger every year so to defend the title, we are going to have to play better and harder than we ever have. We have a lot of great coaches in the NEC who are dedicated to improve and I think we are going to have many programs fighting for the four NEC playoff spots, it should be an exciting year."

The season begins on February 16 with a meeting at Kessler Field against Fairfield, marking the second season in a row that MU will open up against the Stags. The Hawks remain at home to take on the University of Delaware the following Friday, before hitting the road for the first to square off against Patriot League foe Navy.

On March 2nd, in-state rival Rutgers will visit West Long Branch to start a four game home stand for the Blue and White that includes dates with Lafayette, Siena, and St. Joe's. Monmouth caps off their non-conference schedule on March 19th at Canisius. Both Navy and Canisius won their respective conferences last season to qualify for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

The Hawks begin their defense of the Northeast Conference title with NEC play on March 22, featuring match-ups on the weekend with LIU-Brooklyn and Wagner. In a rematch of last year's conference final won by the Hawks, Monmouth heads to Maryland to take on Mount St. Mary's on March 29 before the Western Pennsylvania swing takes them to Robert Morris and Saint Francis a week later.

Quinnipiac comes to MU on April 12 before the Hawks close out their home slate with a Senior Day tilt against Sacred Heart on April 14 at noon. The regular season closes out with a pair of road games at Bryant and Central Connecticut State.

The Northeast Conference tournament is set for Friday, April 26 and will be hosted at the highest seed.
