Kennesaw State Signs 11 to NLIs in Inaugural Lacrosse Class
KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State lacrosse head coach Kristina Llanes announced on Thursday the signing of 11 players to national letters-of-intent. The group will enroll at KSU in the fall of 2013 and represents the first early signing class in program history. Additionally, Megan Nicolette (Cumming, Ga./North Forsyth HS) will also join the program as a walk-on. Llanes, who was named head coach in May, and the Owls are currently preparing for their inaugural season which begins in February of 2013.
"When we were looking for the 2013s, we were really looking for players with high lacrosse IQs, very much students of the game who understand the game very well, are willing to learn more about their individual games and team game and really girls that are committed to building the program and understand the responsibility that goes along with that," Llanes said.
The current group of players is nearly evenly split between Georgia and out-of-state residents. The list includes four players from Georgia, three from Maryland and Ohio, and one each from California and West Virginia. The following is a capsule of each player:
Madison Christian: 5-6, Attack/Midfielder; Severna Park, Md./Severna Park HS
• Earned All-Anne Arundel County and All-Region honors
• Also was captain of cheerleading team and orchestra; Received all-county honors in both activities
• Competed for the CC LAX and Maryland United Lacrosse clubs
• Born at Andrews AFB
• Father, Michael, is a retired Army Colonial
Samantha Farwick; 5-2, Attack; Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS
• Named second team All-Ohio Capital Conference as a sophomore and junior
• Second team all-district in 2011 and 2012
• A member of the Ohio Elite Lacrosse summer team (2011), Northstar indoor lacrosse team in 2010, 2011, 2012
• Helped Upper Arlington HS to state Division I runner-up finish in 2012. Scored a goal championship game
• Sister, Sydney, has also signed to play lacrosse at Kennesaw State
Sydney Farwick; 5-2; Midfield/Attack; Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington HS
• A standout performer during sophomore and junior seasons
• Scored 17 goals, totaled 13 assists and had 44 draw controls during sophomore season
• Named second team All-Ohio Capital Conference, honorable mention all-district and helped team to state runner-up finish in 2011
• Tallied 40 goals, seven assists, 38 draw controls, one interception and caused 14 turnovers as a junior
• Selected first team All-Ohio Capital Conference, all-district, all-state and received honorable mention All-America as a junior
• Scored two goals in the 2012 Division I state championship game
• Named team captain for senior season
Olivia Hokanson; 5-7; Attack; Crofton, Md./South River HS
• A four-sport athlete at South River HS
• Competed in cross country, field hockey, lacrosse and track and field
• An honor student throughout high school career
• Played club lacrosse with Integrity Lacrosse
Taylor McGhee; 5-2; Midfield; Marietta, Ga./Sprayberry HS
• A two-sport (cross country, lacrosse) athlete at Sprayberry HS
• Named lacrosse team's Most Valuable Player after totaling 55 goals and 22 assists as a junior
• Team has reached the playoffs in each of her three seasons
• Recipient of the Stinger Award in 2009
• A four-year member of the cross country team
• Received the cross country Coach's Award in 2010 and Rookie of the Year as freshman in 2009
• An 2011 Georgia Merit Scholar and Academic All-American
• Played for the Sprayberry Varsity and Eagle Stix club teams
