US Lacrosse Announces Sportsmanship Grants for 2013

BALTIMORE, Nov. 30, 2012 - US Lacrosse is providing sportsmanship grants to 19 chapters and leagues in 12 states in support of its commitment to make lacrosse a positive, character-building experience for all participants. The grants will be utilized for coaches, athletes and parents workshops conducted by USL's national partner, Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA).

"We're extremely pleased to once again provide opportunities for our members to access the PCA's invaluable workshops through these sportsmanship grants," said Joshua Christian, managing director of sport development at US Lacrosse. "We're very proud to partner with the PCA and to work together in developing the most positive lacrosse culture possible for all those involved with the game."

The grants will allow recipient organizations to host up to three live workshops for league or chapter members, or to take part in online workshops hosted by the PCA. Many of the awarded chapters and leagues will be hosting the Double Goal Coach 1 workshop, "Coaching for Winning and Life Lessons," which is a current requirement of the US Lacrosse Coaching Education Program's Level 1 certification process.

US Lacrosse and PCA share the common vision of equipping all coaches with the training and tools needed to become "Double-Goal Coaches", where goal #1 is striving to win; and goal #2, the more important one, is teaching life lessons via lacrosse. As partners, the two organizations are working to make the youth lacrosse culture one in which every member 'Honors the Game.'

"We at Positive Coaching Alliance are thrilled that US Lacrosse is helping to bring our Double-Goal Coach training to these chapters and leagues," said Courtney Pollack, director of product management at PCA. "Together, PCA, US Lacrosse and the chapter and league leadership of the grant winners will have a great impact on the youth lacrosse players we ultimately serve."
