Marquette Names the Team's First-Ever Lacrosse Captains

MILWAUKEE Marquette University head lacrosse coach Meredith Black has announced that Lisa Beltramello, Jenaye Coleman and Emily Donovan will serve as the program's first ever team captains for the 2013 season.

"All three of these ladies are excellent leaders and are perfect choices as our inaugural captains," Black said. "The three of them cover all areas of the field, which is great as we get into our first season of intercollegiate competition. Emily is an attacker, Lisa is a midfielder and Jenaye is a defender. Having leaders in all aspects of the game is going to make us a better team."

Beltramello participated on Marquette's club lacrosse team and served as club president before earning a spot with the Golden Eagles during a try-out last fall. A senior from Suffield, Conn., Beltramello was a four-year letter winner at Suffield High School where she served as a three-year team captain and earned team most valuable player honors her freshman and senior seasons. The midfielder is a double major in education and psychology.

"Lisa Beltramello is a veteran by age and understands the ebbs and flows of a season," Black said. "The fact that she is the oldest player on the team is very helpful to the other players who are mostly freshman and sophomores. Lisa is a natural leader who makes great decisions in everything she does."

Donovan also attended open tryouts in 2011 before receiving a spot on the team at attack. At Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, Conn., the four-year letter winner served as captain her senior year when the team claimed a state title. Donovan majors in advertising and public relations.

"Emily Donovan has the most energy on the team and her enthusiasm for Marquette and our program is contagious," said Black.

Coleman, a redshirt freshman, was part of the program's first recruiting class in 2011 after attending Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minn., where she served as captain and earned three letters. Playing defense, Coleman achieved all-conference and all-state honors and competed in state all-star games as a junior and senior. Coleman is a communications studies major.

"Jenaye Coleman leads by example on and off the field," Black said. "She is dedicated leader who works every day to better her team and her own abilities."

The team will kick off its inaugural season on Feb. 15 at Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.
