Belmont Abbey Adds Tom Ryan to Lacrosse Coaching Staff

Belmont Abbey head coach Chris Barrett has announced the addition of former National Lacrosse League veteran Tom Ryan to the Crusaders coaching staff. Ryan is currently the head coach and general manager of the Charlotte Copperheads of the Professional Indoor Lacrosse League.

"The Belmont Abbey Men's Lacrosse program is very fortunate to have a Coach Ryan join our program as an assistant this spring," Barrett said. "I am very excited about the new dynamic he will bring to the program. Tom is a very accomplished coach that had also had a great career both professionally and collegiately as a player and will be a very valuable member of our athletic department here at the Abbey! I look forward to Coach Ryan hitting the field and working with our student athletes!"

A nine-year National Lacrosse League veteran, Ryan amassed 202 points in 95 career games. Ryan played in Boston and Baltimore, before joining Philadelphia, where he was a member of the 2001 World Championship team. Tom is currently the head coach and General Manager for the Charlotte Copperheads Professional Indoor Lacrosse Team that plays their home games at Bojangles' Coliseum. The Copperheads completed their inaugural season at the top of the PLL with a 6-1 record.

As a collegian, Ryan was an All American Attackman at Bowdoin College where he is still the all-time leading scorer with 315 points. He led the school to a pair of ECAC titles and graduated in 1993 with a degree in psychology. He is a member of the Canton, NY High School and Bowdoin College Hall of Fames.
