Yale Lacrosse Class of 2016 Looks to Make Instant Impact

NEW HAVEN, Conn. Yale welcomes 10 freshmen to the roster for the 2013 season, which starts Feb. 23 at Holy Cross. The Class of 2016, which includes five midfielders, four defenders and an attacker, represents five different states.

The newcomers bring an impressive list of accomplishments both on and off the field to New Haven. The group includes a player from the No. 3 ranked team in the country who performed more than 100 hours of community service through various Catholic charities (Flannery Carney), an Academic All-American who set her school career record for points despite missing a year and a half to injury (Nicole Daniggelis), a member of the National Honor Society who was also All-Mainline (Britta Hjelm), a two-time Academic All-American who finished her career ranked No. 5 on the all-time national high school assist list (AnnaElise Morello), a class president who helped her team to a pair of state championships (Maggie Moriarty), a two-time Academic All-American in two sports who helped raise $100,000 for breast cancer research (Courtney Reilly), a Wendy's High School Heisman state finalist who founded the "Splashes of Hope Club" which paints uplifting murals for pediatric cancer centers at hospitals across the United States (Kelly Anne Sherlock), an all-league selection who worked with the Invisible Children Foundation to help child soldiers in Uganda (Tori Virtue), a first team US Lacrosse All-American and Academic All-American who helped her club team win 12 tournament championships (Lauren Wackerle) and an Academic All-American who was ranked the No. 11 best defender nationally by ESPN Rise (Kate Walker).
