Brian Megill, Jojo Marasco Selected in 2013 MLL Draft

PHILADELPHIA A pair of Syracuse University seniors were selected in the 2013 Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Collegiate Draft on Friday, Jan. 11. Defenseman Brian Megill (Clark, N.J.) was selected in the first round (No. 7 overall) by the Denver Outlaws, and midfielder JoJo Marasco (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) went in the fifth round (No. 37 overall) to the New York Lizards.

A 2012 USILA Second Team All-American, Megill is the program's 16th first-round MLL draft choice since 2001, tied with Virginia for the most of any school. Megill recorded 62 ground balls and set an SU single-season record with 37 caused turnovers a year ago. For his career, Megill has 135 ground balls and 78 caused turnovers.

Marasco was named to the All-Big East Second Team last season. He totaled 31 points in 2012 and ranked second on the Orange in assists (19). He has 44 goals and 45 assists in his first three seasons at Syracuse, and recorded at least one point in 16 of the Orange's 17 games last year.

Friday night's draft was held in the Liberty Ballroom at the Philadelphia Marriott hotel. It featured eight rounds and 64 total selections by the league's eight teams.

Colgate attackman and 2012 Tewaaraton Award winner Peter Baum was the top pick, going No. 1 overall to the Ohio Machine.
