Barbuto and Larmony Named 2013 Team Captains

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2013) Maritime fourth-year head coach Daniel Lawrence announced that senior goalie Nick Barbuto (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and junior long-stick midfielder Dylan Larmony (Old Bethpage, N.Y./Planview JFK) were named this season's team captains. The news comes just three days before practice is scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 21.

"These two young men are great leaders both on and off the field," commented Lawrence. "I am very excited about their level of leadership and dedication to the team. I look forward to this season and am hopeful that they can help bring us to where we want to be."

Barbuto has been a three-year member of the Privateer lacrosse team and got the chance last season to take over the starting job between the pipes. In 25 career games, he has registered 208 saves (196 of them coming last year) and has earned three victories. During the 2012 campaign, he finished the year ranked first in the Skyline Conference with 12.25 saves per game and fifth with a .547 save percentage.

"It's truly a privilege to be named captain," said Barbuto. "It means so much to me that I was voted by my fellow teammates. The past three years have been filled with great memories and hopefully we can make this upcoming season, my last, one to remember as well."

Larmony has played in 31 games over the past two seasons for Maritime and has been a strong force in the midfield for the Privateers. He has recorded three goals (all in 2012, including one game-winner), 33 groundballs and seven caused turnovers. He has even been called upon to take face-offs for Maritime and is an even .500 (9 for 18) in his career from the face-off circle.

"I'm honored to lead this team. It's going to be a completely new season and new team and I'm very excited about it," said Larmony.

The Privateers will open the 2013 season on the road at Vassar College on Saturday, Feb. 23. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Brewers' Weinberg Field.
