Lycoming Announces 2013 Schedule

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - A grueling regular-season schedule with 16 games, eight conference and eight non-conference, including nine matches against teams that reached the postseason in 2012 and two with NCAA tournament teams, will set Lycoming College for a tough ride in its attempt to reach the Commonwealth Conference playoffs this year, as first-year head coach Lindsay Reese announced the schedule on Thursday, Jan. 17.

The Warriors will kick off the season at Kean University on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 4:00 p.m. The schedule begins with seven non-conference matches, including a match against 2012 Freedom Conference champions FDU-Florham on March 8. Other tough non-conference matches include Colonial States Athletic Conference powers Marywood (March 13, home), Gwynedd-Mercy (March 16, away) and Landmark Conference runners-up Susquehanna (March 20, away).

The Warriors then swing into conference matches heading to 2012 postseason squad Alvernia on March 28. The team will get the benefit of playing two perennial strong conference powers in Williamsport, hosting 2012 conference runners-up, Messiah, on April 3, and Elizabethtown, the conference champions, on April 17. Other big matches include Widener (April 13, away) and Lebanon Valley (April 23, away), both of whom finished in front of the Warriors in 2012.

With the nine-team conference, the Commonwealth Conference tournament has been expanded to five teams in 2013, with the fourth and fifth-place teams playing a first round game on Tuesday, April 30 at the No. 4 seed. The semifinals are set for Thursday, May 5, with the top seed playing the winner of the first round game and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds also playing. The conference championship is set for Saturday, April 4.

The 2012 Warriors finished 4-13 overall and 1-5 in the Commonwealth Conference. The offense posted a nine-goal improvement and the team picked up 25 more groundballs than in 2011.
