Johnson & Wales, Denver Campus, to Add Lacrosse for 2014

Johnson & Wales University's (JWU) Denver Campus is set to expand its athletics offerings with the addition of men's club lacrosse beginning fall 2013.

Director of Athletics Sandee Mott has begun the process of hiring a coach, and recruiting of student-athletes has already started. The program would look to compete within the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA), a national organization of non-NCAA, college lacrosse programs, eight of which are located in Colorado. The MCLA currently operates in the US and Canada with 200+ teams in two divisions across 10 conferences. JWU's varsity teams compete as a member of the NAIA, which does not currently sponsor lacrosse.

Mott stated, "We are so excited to bring lacrosse to campus. What a great opportunity to compete in a strong association like the MCLA with so many teams here in Colorado. I have seen the growth of lacrosse in our state and in our region and I am excited to see our team grow and contribute to the success of Wildcat athletics."

JWU students choose from a variety of majors from the College of Business, the Hospitality College, and the College of Culinary Arts. The university is also dedicated to making education as accessible and affordable as possible. For 20122013 the university has allocated $143 million in institutional aid, and more than 93 percent of Denver Campus students receive federal, state or institutional aid. Roughly 45 percent of students at the Denver Campus come from Colorado, with large populations also hailing from California, Texas, Washington, New York, and Illinois, among others in the West.
