Mike Kinney Named Assistant Lacrosse Coach at Hiram

HIRAM, OHIO -- Hiram College has announced the hiring of Mike Kinney as an assistant coach with the Terrier program and will begin his first season in the spring of 2013. Hiram will begin its first season as a varsity program at the College in early March.

Kinney comes to Hiram after a recent stay at Olentangy High School in Columbus, Ohio where he served as head coach. While there, he led the team to its highest national ranking in program history in 2012 with the most goals ever scored and fewest goals allowed. In addition, Kinney is currently a co-head coach for the Titanium Lacrosse Club in Columbus for high school seniors and juniors. In the summer of 2012, he was part of a coaching staff who's team posted an 11-2-1 record and was the 2012 SummerSlam Champions.

Kinney brings a wealth of coaching experience at the high school level that includes positions within the Columbus City School District, Westerville South High School and Dublin Scioto High School. He has also coached outside of the high school ranks as head coach of an Ohio Select U-15 team and has also coached with several clubs in the Columbus area. Kinney has coached 14 high school All-Americans during his coaching career as well as being a member of a coaching staff that has won three state championships while at Dublin Scioto.

Kinney is a 1993 graduate of Northwood (Mich.) University and played lacrosse for four seasons. He was the founding member of the Northern Alliance Men's Lacrosse Club in Lewis Center, Ohio and was named the 2010 US Lacrosse Man of the Year by the Ohio Chapter of US Lacrosse.

The Hiram lacrosse team will officially begin its inaugural season on Sunday, Mar. 9 when the Terriers host Houghton (N.Y.) College. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Charles A. Henry Field.
