Chowan Names Lacrosse Captains for Inaugural Season

MURFREESBORO, NC - The Chowan University women's lacrosse program has announced their captains for 2013. Shauna Anderson, Adriea Herndon, and Kamile Smith will lead the Hawks in their first-ever season.

Anderson (Aberdeen, MD), one of two seniors on the team will add some experience to a team of primarily underclassman. Head Coach Eryn McCaffrey stated, "We are fortunate to have Shauna in our program. Not only is she a dual sport athlete, but has also been captain of the women's soccer team for two years. Shauna is a great athlete and a smart player on the field at the midfield position. As an upperclassman and two year captain, she sets the tone for our freshman captains."

Herndon (Aurora, CO) will help Anderson and Smith in leading the youth on the squad this season. McCaffrey indicates, "Adriea brings a lot to our program on and off the field. She has been working well on midfield throughout the fall. She works hard at finding the balance of being a student-athlete and has definitely stepped up and embraced her role as captain."

Smith rounds out the leadership trio for the Hawks. The Havelock, NC native will be counted on to make an immediate impact this season. McCaffrey is pleased with Smith's potential. She comments, "Kamile comes from a program where she was relied on as a leader. She demonstrates the attitude of a leader by stepping up in crucial moments and on offense. Kamile's upbeat attitude and sense of responsibility has made her transition into a team captain a smooth one."

The team will begin their inaugural season of play on February 7th when they travel to play Mount Olive College at 4:00 pm. They will host their first home game at the football stadium on February 20th against St. Andrews at 5:00 pm.
