Lehigh Picked Fourth; Two Earn Preseason All-League

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh was predicted fourth in the 2013 Patriot League Preseason Poll and two Mountain Hawks were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team. Senior Julie McBrien and sophomore Carli Sukonik both earned a spot on the inaugural Preseason All-League team after finishing first and third on the team in scoring a season ago.

The Mountain Hawks came in fourth place with 39 points. They were preceded by Navy with 65 points, Holy Cross (55), and Colgate (44). American, Lafayette and Bucknell followed Lehigh, rounding out the list with 38, 34, and 12 points respectively. The Mountain Hawks, who just missed the Patriot League Tournament a season ago, finished with a 7-9 overall record but have still made the league tournament in five of the last six years.

McBrien, a midfielder, finished third on the team last year with 36 points and second in both goals (24) and assists (12). She had five straight multi-point games to end the season and 11 for the year. She was also named a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree and won the team's Scholar-Athlete of the Year award at the annual end of year banquet.

Sukonik had an impressive freshman campaign at attack, posting a team-high 41 goals and 47 points. She stood fifth in the Patriot League in goals per game and posted seven hat tricks, 10 multi-goal games and 11 multi-point games. She was also named a Second Team All-Patriot League honoree.

Lehigh tied for the second most players on the Preseason All-League team, along with Holy Cross, Colgate and American. Navy's Jasmine DePompeo was named Offensive Player of the Year while Colgate's Jennie Berglin earned Defensive Player of the Year laurels.

Lehigh is deep into preseason practice in preparation for the start to of its 2013 season. The Mountain Hawks open the season on Saturday Feb. 16 against Villanova at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
