First Senior Class Aims for First Winning Season

SU then heads to California to face Whittier and Oneonta State, two games that will push the Pirates to the limit and test their resolve early. "We have some top teams that are going to be great challenges for us and then we have a lot of games that I feel that if we are clicking it could lead us to the best season we have had to date."

SCAC conference action will play a huge role in the success of this year's team as Southwestern will face each opponent twice, a first for the conference. While every game is winnable for the Pirates, Colorado College still remains the measuring stick to which SU compares. "We will potentially play them three times this year with the third time being for a conference championship; if we are lucky enough to do that," says Coach Bowman. "That is the team that we really want to work on because we know that Colorado College is on a level nationally that we want to achieve."

Other non-conference games will allow SU to face some of the top players in the nation including pre-season All-Americans and the best player in the best conference.

"In order to be successful, we have to execute and manufacture goals and do the things we are supposed to. We have to make sure that we take our athleticism and put it to use within our system," says Coach Bowman. "When we do that we can play with anyone and those are the things we are trying to work on and get better at. I am excited about the season. The schedule is set up so that this team has the opportunity to do something we haven't been able to do as a varsity team."
