Catamounts Picked Sixth in America East Preseason Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. University of Vermont was picked to finish sixth in the America East Preseason Poll, which was announced by the conference earlier this afternoon.

Albany received three first place votes and 22 points total (out of a possible 25) to earn the top spot in the poll after reaching the America East Championship game last season.

Stony Brook, last season's conference champions, received two first place votes and 20 points total to tie with UMBC (one first-place vote) for second place. Hartford (13 points), Binghamton (10) and Vermont (5) rounded out the poll.

Vermont, which finished last season 2-12 overall and 1-4 in America East play, returns 21 letterwinners from last year's squad. Drew Philie is back for his senior season after leading the team with 29 goals in 2012 and earning a spot on the all-conference second team. The senior currently ranks fifth in the nation on the active career goals scored list with 89.

The Catamounts open the 2013 season on February 16 when they host Colgate at 1:00 p.m. at Virtue Field.
