Aust Leads No. 4 Maryland Past Japan in Lacrosse Exhibition

COLLEGE PARK, Md. Senior Alex Aust led all scorers with five goals as No. 4 Maryland topped Japan, 19-8, in exhibition action Friday at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.

Maryland's attack was very balanced with 10 goal scorers on the day. Freshman Halle Majorana tallied four goals and fellow rookie Taylor Cummings registered two goals and three draw controls.

Fresh off a stint with the US women's national team, sophomore Kelly McPartland was the Terps' top distributor, posting four in the squad's season debut.

"It was pretty cool for us to have that international experience and play against a team that is preparing for the World Cup this summer," head coach Cathy Reese said. "I thought we did really well offensively, especially in the first half, with controlling the tempo and handling Japan's pressure."

Maryland officially kicks off its season at Richmond next Sunday.
