IWLCA 2013 Preseason Poll for Division I

The Northwestern Wildcats, the reigning national champions, start the 2013 season sitting in the top spot as the IWLCA released the preseason poll. Maryland, the 2012 runners-up, start in second, while 2012 semifinalists Florida and Maryland sit in third and fourth, respectively.

The ACC and the ALC both claim five schools in the rankings while the Big East follows closely with four institutions. The Ivy League is the only other conference to boast of multiple schools in the top-20 with three. The Atlantic-10, CAA, and America East are each represented by one school.

The ACC has four schools in the top-10, with North Carolina just outside the top-four at No. 5. Duke follows and No. 7 with Virginia right behind at No. 8. Boston College rounds out the poll at No. 20.

The ALC is led by top-ranked Northwestern; Florida, who finished the regular season at No. 1, starts the 2013 season at No. 3. Penn State closes out the top half of the poll at No. 10, while Ohio State checks in at No. 13. Johns Hopkins sits at No. 19.

The Big East is led by Syracuse at No. 2; Loyola at No. 6 and Notre Dame at No. 9 also reside in the top-10. Georgetown is also a top-10 team, coming in at No. 15. The Ivy League's three teams are all in the second half of the poll, led by No. 11 Penn and No. 12 Dartmouth. Cornell lands at No. 16 in the rankings.

Massachusetts from the A-10 starts the season at No. 14, while the CAA's Towson (No. 17) just edged out the America East's Stony Brook (No. 18).

This is the first IWLCA poll of the 2013 season; the regular season polls will start February 25.
