Flower City Cup in Rochester: Lacrosse Coaches vs. Cancer

The Rochester lacrosse community welcomes to Rochester the inaugural edition of the Coaches vs Cancer Flower City Cup presented by Canandaigua National Bank & Trust. This unique lacrosse event includes 12 NCAA men's and women's lacrosse teams playing in a doubleheader format on the campus's of Nazareth College, Rochester Institute of Technology, and St. John Fisher College. Each campus will feature a double header on both Friday, March 15th and Sunday, March 17th. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and contribute in the fight against cancer.

The NCAA games will feature 12 of the top teams in Division III lacrosse in 12 exciting regular season games. Visiting the men's and women's teams on the Nazareth, RIT, and St John Fisher campuses will be the top teams from the Commonwealth Coast conference; Endicott College men and women, Roger Williams University men, and Western New England University men and women. The women from Fredonia State will also participate in this inaugural event.

Highlights include a rematch of the 2012 NCAA second round game between the RIT Tigers and the Western New England University Golden Bear's to be held on the campus of RIT on Friday at 2:00 pm. At 5:00 pm, the RIT women's team will host the Endicott Gulls.

Additionally on Saturday, March 16th, each campus will host several high school varsity teams to participating in preseason scrimmages. On Saturday evening the Rochester Knighthawks game vs Edmonton will be Flower City Cup night. Tickets will be available through the Flower City Cup web site for $12, with $2 of each ticket going directly to the American Cancer Society.

The Flower City Cup is named after Rochester, NY, The Flower City, famous for its lilacs and Lilac Festival. The full schedule is available at www.FlowerCityCup.com. A $5 weekend admission pass will be good for all college and high school games and scrimmages for the weekend. Passes are available at the gate at each campus prior to each game. About Coaches vs. Cancer - A collaboration that once began between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, has now grown into the Coaches vs. Cancer program that brings together coaches, teams and fans from all sports to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society by empowering basketball, lacrosse, football and other athletic coaches to save lives from cancer by leveraging their community leadership to support the Society.
