Catamounts Picked Fifth in America East Preseason Poll

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Vermont was picked to finish fifth in the 2013 America East Preseason Coaches Poll, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon.

Stony Brook took the top spot in the poll with three first-place votes and 33 points total after reaching the league championship game last season.

Albany, last year's America East champions, received two first-place votes and earned 29 points to tie with Boston University (one first-place vote) for second place. UMBC collected the other first-place vote and earned 19 points total to finish fourth. Vermont (17 points), New Hampshire (13) and Binghamton (7) rounded out the poll.

UVM went 9-8 overall last season while posting a 2-4 mark in league play. The Catamounts return 21 letterwinners from the 2012 squad, including their leading goal scorer Sydney Mas. The junior led the team with 53 goals last season to earn a spot on the America East All-Conference First Team. She currently ranks fourth on the all-time career goals list at Vermont with 108, needing just 32 goals to become the all-time leader.

The Catamounts begin their 2013 campaign on February 16 at Colgate at 1:00 p.m. Their home opener is scheduled for February 23 at 1:00 p.m. against Marist.
