Dan Groot Joins the Lacrosse Coaching Staff at Rhodes

Dan Groot, a former captain and two time All-American from the University of Maryland, has joined the lacrosse coaching staff at Rhodes College.

As an accomplished athlete at Maryland, Groot earned All-Academic honor roll in 2008, 2009, named to All American teams in 2007, 2009, and earned multiple team awards: the Edwin Powell Award (greatest service to lacrosse during 2009), William P. Cole III Award (the most outstanding midfielder in 2007, 2009), and the Levitt Memorial Award (given to the top freshman player in 2006).

He earned his Masters of Arts in Education at Castleton State College (VT), where he served as a coach's assistant for the men's lacrosse program. In 2009-10, Groot served as an assistant coach at SUNY Brock port.

Head coach Dave Zazzaro had this to say: "We are excited to have Dan at Rhodes as part of our program. His ability to teach, instruct, and recruit will go a long way in developing a successful lacrosse culture."

The Lynx season opener is Friday, February 8 at 3:00 p.m. against Southwestern University at Crain Field in Memphis, TN.
