Gettysburg Ranked Fourth in IWLCA Preseason Poll

GETTYSBURG, Pa. Gettysburg College was picked fourth in the preseason NCAA Division III poll released by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).

Gettysburg (19-2 in 2012) received 325 total points to finish one point ahead of Middlebury College (15-5) in the fourth slot. Defending national champion Trinity (Conn.) College (21-1) took home the No. 1 ranking with 392 points and 18 first-place votes. National runner-up Salisbury University (22-1) was behind the Bantams with 392 points and two first-place votes, while SUNY Cortland (20-2) grabbed third with 359 points.

Rounding out the top 10 were No. 6 College of New Jersey (16-4), No. 7 Colby College (15-3), No. 8 Amherst College (13-5), No. 9 York (Pa.) College (14-5), and No. 10 Messiah College (16-4).

The Centennial Conference was represented by two teams as Franklin & Marshall College (13-3) was picked 14th.

After claiming the national title in 2011, Gettysburg won its seventh conference title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th consecutive season in 2012. Head Coach Carol Cantele '83, the IWLCA Division III Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2011, returns for her 21st season at the helm of the Bullets. Cantele is 286-90 at Gettysburg and she is seventh all-time in NCAA history with 310 wins in her coaching career overall.

Gettysburg wastes no time jumping into action. Following a scrimmage against Shippensburg University and Lock Haven University on Feb. 16, the Bullets square off with No. 13 University of Mary Washington on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 4:00 p.m. on Clark Field.
