Richmond Names Two Seniors as 2013 Lacrosse Captains

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- Seniors Tara Coyle and Caitlin Fifield were named the 2013 Richmond women's lacrosse captains as announced by head coach Allison Evans.

"I'm excited to announce that Tara and Fife have been selected as our captains this year," said Evans. "Tara is a true leader in every way. Her passion and love for this program are contagious and daily motivate our team to leave everything on the field. With Fife being in her fifth year, she not only brings a wealth of experience but also possesses a confidence in this program which she imparts on our underclassmen. Both of them truly embody what it means to be a Spider."

Coyle returns to anchor the Spider defense in 2013. The Farmingdale, N.Y. native started every game last season and recorded a season-best five ground balls against Temple. Coyle had 27 ground balls on the season and caused a career-high 17 turnovers, including a season-best three against No. 5 Maryland. Coyle's 17 caused turnovers ranked second on the team.

Fifield returns to an experienced Richmond attacking unit, where she has been a four-year starter. Fifield led Richmond in goals (60) and points (80) last season, and garnered A-10 Player of the Week honors after her game-winning goal against No. 13 James Madison. Fifield was tabbed to the All-Conference first team in 2012 and was named to the 2012 A-10 Lacrosse Championship All-Tournament team. The Babylon, N.Y. native also had 20 assists, 13 ground balls and 10 draw controls in 2012.

Richmond opens its season at home against No. 4 Maryland Sunday, Feb. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
