Johns Hopkins' Preview for the 2013 Lacrosse Season

A pair of freshmen Kelton Black and Derrick Kihembo bring impressive prep credentials to Homewood and will battle for time on the rope unit behind Castronova and Malm.

The luxury of playing behind JHU's experienced defensive unit belongs to senior goalie Pierce Bassett, who enters this third full season as a starter for the Blue Jays. A two-time All-American, Bassett finished seventh in the nation in goals against average last season (7.47) and ranks 10th in school history in career saves (355). He has developed into the vocal leader of the Blue Jay defense and provides a commanding presence in goal.

Eric Schneider will serve as Bassett's top backup this season after redshirting last season. He played in two games as a freshman in 2011 and teams with Bassett to give the Blue Jays a solid tandem in goal.

Sophomore Grant Fitts and freshman Will Ryan provide depth in goal. Fitts played in one game last season and made a key save late in a win over Manhattan that preserved JHU's first shutout since 1988, while Ryan was an Under Armour All-American as a senior in high school.
