W&J Selects Three Lacrosse Team Captains for 2013

WASHINGTON, Pa. Washington & Jefferson head coach Tracy Coyne announced seniors Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls), Kelsey Kraus (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) and Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) as team captains for the 2013 season.

The trio has helped W&J earn 13 victories and a berth in the ECAC Tournament during each of their first three seasons in Washington.

"We are very pleased to announce the selection of Brittany Fradkin, Kelsey Kraus and Julia McLellan as team captains for the 2013 season," said Coyne. "It's always a good sign when the team and coaching staff are in complete agreement about which players have stepped up to lead. Brittany, Kelsey and Julia have set the tone in a positive in terms of work ethic and attitude. I've been impressed not only by their athletic ability but most importantly by how committed they are to the success of the W&J lacrosse program."

Fradkin ranks third in school history in both points (149) and goals (131). Last spring, she set single-season school records for goals (63) and points (70). Fradkin has also been the team's leader in draw controls the last three seasons with a program-record 146.

Kraus owns 34 goals and 14 assists during her 42-game career. She is the team's third-leading returning scorer after tallying 16 points (13g, 3a) last spring. Kraus is also a three-year letter winner for the Presidents' women's soccer team during the fall.

McLellan is a three-year starting goalkeeper with 38 career victories in net. She is the Presidents' all-time leader in saves with 397 and owns an 8.05 career goals against average. Last season, she posted the lowest single-season GAA in school history at 7.64.

Coyne added, "Having great leadership is a big key to the success of any program. I'm looking forward to working with the captains to bring home the first championship in women's lacrosse history at W&J in 2013."

W&J opens its first season under the former Notre Dame coach's guidance on March 1 at Alexandre Stadium against Buffalo State (4:00 pm).
