Marist Lacrosse Poised for 2013 Run at MAAC Championship

Senior Matt Dugan (Cortland, N.Y.) has been Marist's primary face-off man over the past two seasons, winning 49% of his draws throughout his career. He led the Red Foxes in 2012 with 55 ground balls. Freshman Dominic Montemurro (Kings Park, N.Y.) will also be working with Dugan and will take face-offs for the Red Foxes this spring.

Wilkinson will look primarily to sophomore Patrick Eaker (Redding, Conn.) to replace Defranco at the long-stick midfielder position. Last season, Eaker saw time in 13 games, causing seven turnovers and collecting 16 ground balls. He will be backed up by sophomore Ben Willett (Portsmouth, R.I.) and freshman Derek Sganga (Manorville, N.Y.).

Defense
While the Red Foxes lost their shut-down defender, Badallucco, to graduation, they return two senior starters to their back line in Fox and T.J. McDermott (Brewster, N.Y.).

Fox, who has made 42 starts in his career, was second on the Red Foxes in 2012 with 15 caused turnovers, and fourth with 32 ground balls, earning a spot on the All-MAAC Second Team.

McDermott started 13 of 14 games last season, grabbing 15 ground balls and causing five turnovers.

Seniors Brendan Brunelle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) and Patrick Wall (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) and sophomore Nick Struble (Oakdale, N.Y.) all received valuable playing time in 2012 and will look to step into the starting lineup.

Goalie
Marist returns all four of its goaltenders from a year ago, led by last season's starter, junior Craig Goodermote (Holtsville, N.Y.). In 2012, Goodermote ranked 23rd in the country with a 10.14 saves per game average and 27th nationally with a 9.79 goal against average (GAA). He made 142 saves on the season including a career-high 19 on two separate occasions.

Also returning is the Red Foxes' 2011 starter, Brendan Price (Bay Shore, N.Y.), who is serving as one of Marist's four captains this year. As a sophomore Price made 13 starts, recording a .508 save percentage and a 9.10 GAA.

Sophomore David Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) and junior Michael Linehan (Rye, N.Y.) also return to provide depth for the Red Foxes.

2013 Schedule
The Red Foxes will again play a challenging schedule in 2013 beginning with Saturday's match-up against the reigning America East Champions Stony Brook. Marist will also travel to Duke, who advanced to last season's Final Four, for a game on Monday, March 18. Last year, the Red Foxes traveled to Durham and took a two-goal lead into the fourth quarter but eventually fell by an 11-10 score to the eighth-ranked Blue Devils.

The 2013 MAAC Championships will take place on the weekend of May 3-5 on Canisius' home field in Buffalo, N.Y.

Honoring Eddie
In 2013, the men's lacrosse team will continue to honor the memory of Eddie Coombs, who tragically passed away in the summer of 2011. As they did last season, each game one member of the team will wear #34, Coombs' jersey number his freshman year. The player will be picked by the coaching staff based on performances in games and practices.
