Army Tops Manhattan for First Victory of the Season

Mike Casson scored a man-up goal with 5:49 left in regulation, but back-to-back strikes by Army made it a 14-7 game with just under four minutes left. Eidel would record the first hat-trick of his career thanks to an assist from Jarvis, who finished with three points, with 2:28 remaining.

Army's offense peppered the Manhattan defense firing a total of 53 shots, including 21 in the third quarter. The Black Knights utilized their extra-man opportunities, scoring on four of the eight EMO's awarded to them. The Jaspers were just 1-7 in that category, and turned the ball over 21 times in the loss.

Newsome finished with a game high five points while the nation's second leading active scorer, Garrett Thul, had a game best four goals for Army.

Sophomore goalkeeper Michael Wiatrak did have another career day for Manhattan, making 20 saves while pulling in three ground balls. The 20 saves were the most for a Jasper goalkeeper since Feb. 26, 2011 when Rich Akapnitis made 21 in a loss at Robert Morris.

The Jaspers will resume their season on Sat., Feb., 23 when they host Lafayette at 1:00 p.m. in their home opener at Gaelic Park.
