No. 9 Denver, No. 15 PSU Meet at Moe's Southwest Grill Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. No. 9 Denver remains on the road this weekend, traveling to Jacksonville, Fla., to take part in the Moe's Southwest Grill Classic, hosted by Jacksonville University at EverBank Field (home of the Jacksonville Jaguars). Denver will face No. 15 Penn State in the opening game of the Classic, which begins at 1:00 p.m. ET.

The game will be available live on NBC Sports Network with Mike Corey providing the play-by-play and Evan Washburn as the analyst. Mark Dixon will be providing sideline commentary throughout the game.

The Series
The Pioneers are 3-1 all-time against Penn State, including a 14-6 win over the Nitany Lions last season in University Park, Pa.

Scouting Penn State
Penn State comes into its match-up with the Pioneers with a 1-0 mark on the season, having defeated Michigan 11-6 last Saturday. TJ Sanders named CAA Rookie of the Week for scoring five points at Michigan, while Shane Sturgis scored four goals and Jack Forster added three points for PSU. Goalkeeper Austin Kaut made 12 saves for PSU with a .667 save percentage. Nick Dolik and Jack Forster are riding 12- and 13-game point streaks, respectively.

Pioneer Leader Board
The Pioneers come into Sunday's meeting after defeating No. 4/6 Duke at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C., 14-12, ending the nation's longest home winning streak. Sophomore Eric Adamson lead the Pioneers with six points on five goals and one assist, while freshman Gordie Koerber netted his first career hat trick. Senior Eric Law posted four points as he led the way with three assists. Sophomore goalie Ryan LaPlante made a career-high 18 saves. The Pioneers, who trailed for the entire first half, used a nine-goal scoring streak that stretched from the start of the third quarter to midway through the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Going Streaking
The Pioneers' nine-goal scoring outburst against Duke was the most goals scores consecutively by the Pioneers under head coach Bill Tierney. Last season the Pioneers posted an eight-goal streak against Robert Morris and a seven-goal streak against Loyola in the ECAC Tournament.

Standing Tall
Sophomore goalie Ryan LaPlante posted one of the best performances of his collegiate career last Saturday as he made 18 saves, setting a new career-high in a 14-12 win over the Duke Blue Devils. His previous high of 16 was set last season against Bellarmine (04/06/12) and then matched against last season against Duke (04/27/12).

Can I Get a Hat Trick
Sophomore Eric Adamson started the 2013 season off with a bang, recording five goals to record his first career hat trick. Freshman Gordie Koerber also tallied the first hat trick of his career with three goals against the Blue Devils.
