Shepherd Races Past West Virginia Wesleyan in Opener

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. Senior midfielder Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) scored five goals, while sophomore attack/midfielder Kelsey Eagan (Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point) and freshman midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) each added four goals to lead Shepherd to a 22-2 win over West Virginia Wesleyan in action at Ram Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore attack Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) added three goals and three assists, while midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) tallied two goals and an assist.

Junior midfielder Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) contributed a goal and a pair of assists.

Junior attack Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) and freshman attack Hunter Morris (Severna Park, MD/ Severn School) each added single goals.

Taylor Holmes and Jacklyn Luciany each had goals for the Bobcats.

Sophomore netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded four saves for the Rams, while Jenna Wadsworth (13) and Alexi Swisher (4) combined for 17 saves for West Virginia Wesleyan.

Shepherd held a 49-6 shots advantage and a 31-11 edge in ground balls.

Shepherd improves to 1-0, while West Virginia Wesleyan falls to 0-1. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
