Queens Falls to Fifth-Ranked Rollins

CHARLOTTE, N.C. Queens hosted No. 5 Rollins in a non-conference game this afternoon, falling 21-12 to the Tars. The Royals now sit at 1-1 on the year, while the Tars begin their season at 1-0.

The Tars got going a little over two minutes into action with back-to-back goals from Tyler Thomas and Katie Palasz. Queens' Brittany Barnwell would put the Royals on the board at 27:04, but Rollins followed with four straight goals to take a 6-1 lead just eight minutes into play. Over the next 20 minutes of the half, the Tars would go on a 7-3 run to take a 13-4 lead heading into the break.

In the second half, the Tars expanded their lead to 10, enforcing the running clock rule, twice before Barnwell brought the Royals to within 10 with two goals in a row. The Royals would outscore Rollins 4-1 in the final 12 minutes, but the deficit proved to be too much overcome as the Tars took the win at Dickson Field.

Barnwell led the Royals with four goals. She also totaled two ground balls and three draw controls. Jena Ready completed play with four points on a hat trick and an assist. Danielle Horoschak took the loss in the net after getting eight stops.

Erica Pagliarulo of Rollins led all on the field today with five goals. Kelly Thayer and Caroline Lamere each recorded a hat trick. Elyse De Lisle collected six saves and collected the win in goal.

Queens was outshot 39-26, but won the battle for draw controls, 19-16. Rollins scooped up 28 ground balls, while Queens totaled 17.

The Royals will travel to face Lenoir-Rhyne University on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
