Niagara Adds Eight Recruits for the 2014 Lacrosse Season

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. First year head coach Wendy Stone has announced the addition of eight new players in her first recruiting class. Joining the Purple Eagles for the 2014 season, as announced by head coach Wendy Stone. Joining the team will be Andrea Francisco, Murphy Newman, Taylor Wolf, Kara Martin, Sarah Fuller, Isabella Leon, Hannah Vause and Hannah Barnett.

"We are thrilled to welcome our first recruiting class to the Niagara Lacrosse family," Stone said. "This talented group of eight student-athletes will provide much needed depth at all positions. The signing of these eight student-athletes is a significant step forward for our program as we work to take the NU Lacrosse Program to the next level. We are expecting big things from this group on the field, in the classroom and within the Niagara community."

Francisco was named most improved player in 2012 as a member of the West Genesee Senior High lacrosse team. The three-sport athlete in high school (soccer, basketball and lacrosse) helped lead the Wildcats to the New York State Lacrosse Class A Title.

Newman comes to Monteagle Ridge after playing midfield for the lacrosse team at Berkshire School in Canton, N.Y. The Western New Yorker was named to the All-Northern First Team as a sophomore. Newman also played soccer and hockey.

Wolf, a Hamburg, N.Y. native, will come to Niagara as a two-time First Team All-Division honoree and a 2012 All-WNY First Team member. The three-sport athlete (field hockey, basketball and lacrosse) helped the Bulldogs to back-to-back division championships ('11 & '12), as well as a sectional championship in 2012.

Martin will graduate from Victor High School after being named as a US Lacrosse High School Academic All-American in 2012. She was awarded Monroe County Public School Athletic Conference All-League Second Team in 2012, and was named most improved player in 2011. The Farmington, N.Y. native was also tabbed as a US Lacrosse High School Academic All-American her junior year.

Fuller, an Auburn, N.Y. native, will join the Purple Eagles after attending Auburn High. The two-sport athlete (field hockey and lacrosse) was named to the Central New York Counties League First Team in 2011 and CNYCL Honorable Mention in 2012.

Leon, three-sport athlete (lacrosse, soccer and basketball) comes to Niagara after captaining the Pittsford Mendon squad in Pittsford, N.Y. While there, she has been named to the all-county team, and helped the Vikings to back-to-back sectional championships (2010 and 2011).

Vause was named captain of the Fayetteville-Manlius High School lacrosse team. The three sport athlete (lacrosse, basketball, indoor track) was named to the All-League and All-district teams.

Barnett brings an impressive resume to Monteagle Ridge, after spending two seasons at Monroe Community College. The Marcus Whitman alumnus will play one more season with the Tribunes before joining the Purps her junior year. In her first year at MCC, the team was National Junior College runner-ups where she scored 41 goals with 21 assists, leading to a First-Team All-Region 3 accolade. While at Marcus Whitman, the Gorham, N.Y. native was named to the Finger Lakes First Team all four years of high school. The three-sport athlete (lacrosse, soccer and basketball) was named most valuable player in 2012, and defensive player of the year in 2011.
