No. 6 Limestone Outpaces Erskine in Home Opener

GAFFNEY, S.C. Fourteen consecutive goals through the beginning of the first half set the tone for the rest of the game as Limestone (3-0, 2-0 CC) delivered a 19-5 drubbing of Erskine (2-3, 0-2 CC) in action on Thursday, February 21.

Senior midfielder Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.) scored a game-high five goals and added three groundballs and two draw controls while junior attack Sarah Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) dished out seven assists for the second time this season and added a goal for eight points. Senior attack Sylvia Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y.) added four goals and two assists and sophomore midfielder Sam McCarrick (Oswego, N.Y.) finished with three scores.

Senior goalkeeper Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, Conn.) played 40:06, making one save and allowing one goal to pick up the win and move to 1-0 on the season.

The Saints quickly took control of the game as they scored eight goals over the first 9:03 and raced out to a 13-0 lead by the half. They would run that to 14-0 with a goal by Treat at the 27:43 mark of the second half before the Flying Fleet's Hillary Henry got on the board with a free position goal at 26:29. Limestone would then go on to score four of the next five goals to push the lead to 18-2 before Erskine notched three of the last four to reach the final margin of 19-5.

Samantha Burns notched a pair of goals, four groundballs and four draw controls to lead Erskine while Anna Dailey, Hillary Henry and Sarah Tibbits each had a solo goal. Konstandena Brown played all 60 minutes in goal, allowing all 19 goals and making 10 saves to fall to 2-3 on the year.

Limestone is back in action on Thursday, February 28 when they host Mercyhurst at Saints Field. Opening draw control is slated for 2:00 p.m.
