No. 15 Georgetown Uses 5-0 Run to Edge No. 17 Towson

Georgetown (2-0) and the Tigers (0-2) battled early in the game. The Tigers struck first as Maloof and sophomore Paige Duncan connected at 28:26. The goal was Duncan's first of the season. Georgetown scored the next two goals before junior Rhiannon Coogle tallied the equalizer at 26 minutes. Caroline Tarzian had a goal and an assist in the next two minutes to help Georgetown take a 4-2 lead with 24:44 remaining in the half.

Maloof scored her first goal of the game at 22:29 to pull the Tigers within one, 4-3. The two teams traded goals as senior Olivia Turner's goal at 19:10 made it a 5-4 game in favor of the home team.

However, Turner's goal was the last scored by the Tigers until 14:55 of the second half. The Hoyas scored the final four goals of the first half and led 9-4 at the intermission.

Rosie Corcoran added to Georgetown's lead as she scored the first goal of the second half to make it a 10-4 game with 25:13 to play.

Duncan's second goal of the game at 14:55 ended the Tigers' scoreless streak and started a 3-0 run by the Tigers. Maloof had the second two goals for the Tigers during that stretch as Towson pulled to within three, 10-7 with 13:04 to play. Georgetown scored three of the game's next four goals to take a 13-8 advantage with 5:41 to play.

Senior Kelly Custer scored on a free position shot with 5:21 remaining before Maloof scored her fourth goal of the game at 4:14. Maloof's tally pulled the Tigers to within three again, 13-10. However that proved to be the final margin as Georgetown maintained possession of the ball down the stretch and claimed victory. Georgetown finished the game with a 27-18 advantage in shots while the Tigers won 13 of the game's 25 draw controls.

Barb Black made two saves to earn the win in goal for the Hoyas. Kelsea Donnelly made a career-high 11 saves in the loss for the Tigers.

Maloof was one of three Tigers to score multiple goals in the game. Duncan had a pair of goals and an assist while Custer scored a pair of goals.

Tarzian led Georgetown with four goals and two assists in the game.

The Tigers wrap up their three-game road trip to start the season when they visit UMBC on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 4:00 p.m.
