Dolphins Cruise Past Express in Season Opener

Yonkers, N.Y. Mount Saint Vincent got at least one point from 13 different players in a 21-2 season opening win over visiting Wells on Saturday afternoon. The Dolphins were led by six points from Bryan Stein (Larchmont, N.Y.).

The Dolphins scored the first 12 goals of the game and tallied six goals in each of the first three quarters. John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) opened the scoring with his first of the season just 3:06 into the contest. The Mount finished with six different goal scorers overall in the first quarter, with Miller Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) adding an assist to his marker.

Stein scored three of his four goals on the day in the fist two quarters, tallying once in the first period and two more times in the second. He rounded out his scoring with his fourth marker of the day and a helper in the third quarter.

Overall, Mount Saint Vincent had seven players register multiple goals, with Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) tallying three times for the Dolphins. He also led the team with nine groundballs.

Mike McEnaney (New York, N.Y.), Matt Desimone (Congers, N.Y.), Celestin and Ryan Dupointe (Brookhaven, N.Y.) all finished with a pair of goals, with Celestin adding two helpers to close out a four point afternoon.

Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) finished up a solid afternoon with a goal and an assist to go along with five groundballs. Petito added a pair of groundballs and four caused turnovers to the winning effort.

Junior Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) picked up the win in goal after making three saves in the first half. Dom Scipioni (Yonkers, N.Y.) and Ben Gashi (Bronx, N.Y.) split time in the second half and combined to make three stops.

For the game, Mount Saint Vincent dominated in every statistical category. The Dolphins outshot Wells 59-10, picked up 46 groundballs to 25 for the Express and won 18 of the 25 face-offs taken. Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished game 18 for 25 in draws and added four groundballs.

With the win, Mount Saint Vincent moves to 1-0 overall on the season and to 2-7 all-time in season openers. The Dolphins will be back on the field again on Saturday, March 2 when they host Cobleskill. Face-off is set for 6:30 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
