Second-Ranked Salisbury Opens by Stampeding Mustangs

Warner and sophomore Kathryn Merrick (Bel Air, Md./Forest Hill) each added second-half tallies for the Mustangs, but they were outscored 8-2 in the second half. Merrick's goal with 16:58 remaining was the first of her career after she missed all of last season due to injury.

Sophomore Leanne Bittner (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) got the start in goal for Stevenson, totaling five saves in just over 45 minutes. Freshman Maggie Lawder (Perry Hall, Md./Mercy) also saw action for the Mustangs, stopping four shots in just over 14 minutes.

Katie Bollhorst, the 2012 IWLCA Attacker of the Year, led the Sea Gulls with three goals and one assist. Kate Haker also had four points with two goals and two assists.

Salisbury held a 31-9 advantage in shots and won 17 of 25 draw controls. Stevenson was also whistled for 27 fouls, including two yellow cards.

The Mustangs return to action next Saturday, March 2 when they travel to Salem, Virginia for a non-conference contest versus Roanoke beginning at noon.
