Shepherd Cruises to Victory at Wheeling Jesuit
BETHANY, W.Va. – Senior midfielder Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) scored six goals, while sophomore attack Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) and freshman midfielder Erin Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin) each added four to lead Shepherd to a 21-6 win over Wheeling Jesuit in Saturday evening action.
Senior midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown), sophomore attack/midfielder Kelsey Eagan(Baltimore, MD/Sparrows Point), and junior midfielder Jenny Cavey (Sykesville, MD/Westminster) each added a pair of goals, while freshman attack Hunter Morris (Severna Park, MD/Severn School) added a goal.
Sophomore midfielder/defender Allie Wesley (Bowie, MD/Annapolis Are Christian School), freshman defender Kelsey Phelan (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin), Erin Phelan, Karr, Morris, and Tippett each had single assists.
Jessie Tufnell tallied four goals to lead Wheeling Jesuit.
The Rams opened the game on a 6-0 run and had a 14-2 lead at the break.
Sophomore netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded seven saves for the Rams, while recorded Hannah Lazuka had 17 saves for Wheeling Jesuit.
Shepherd held a 47-18 shots advantage, while ground balls were even at 19-19.
Shepherd improves to 2-0, while Wheeling Jesuit falls to 0-1. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Alderson-Broaddus for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
