St. Andrews Wins in a Rout over UNC-Charlotte
Laurinburg, NC- St. Andrews played extremely well on Sunday as they were able to rout the 49ers of UNC-Charlotte 19-2 behind five goals from freshman Jake Brown.
Freshman Jonathon Arvin also contributed greatly to the win with 4 goals and 2 assists. Arvin now has 7 goals, 5 assist and 12 points on the season while Brown leads the team with 13 goals and 16 points.
St. Andrews was able to get off to a dominating 5-0 lead after the first quarter before scoring 6 goals in the 2nd while the 49ers (1-3) could only muster 2 to take an 11-2 halftime edge. Freshman attackman Matt Benedict scored 3 goals as well as he now has 8 on the year with 11 total points.
Junior midfielder Vincent Pugh also had a multiple goal day scoring his first 2 goals of the season while freshman midfielder Connor Cather had a goal and 2 assists. Freshman Randy Loving also dominated the face-offs as he was able to win 18 of 19 along with collecting 8 ground balls to lead the team. Loving has now won 68.6% of his face-offs this season (59/86).
The Knights kept the pressure on scoring another 6 goals in the third quarter to put a strangle hold on the game before head coach Chris Sherman called off the dogs in the fourth rolling to the lopsided win.
SAU (3-1) will now prepare to host Point University (GA) on Saturday at 3:00 pm here at Knights Field.
