Otterbein Thumps Bethany to Kick off 2013 Season

BETHANY, W. Va. Otterbein kicked off its season with a dominant 24-1 win at Bethany College (W Va.) Saturday afternoon.

The Cardinals got on the board five seconds into the contest, seeing Andrew Donatelli take a feed from Carlos Salazar and finish. The goal ties an NCAA record for quickest score to start a game.

Otterbein held a 12-0 lead at halftime and 17-0 advantage after three quarters in coasting to the win.

Junior Mike Dattolo tallied six goals and one assist to lead the way for Otterbein, while senior Andrew Donatelli registered four goals of his own.

Mikey O'Neal, Jeff Reese, Alex Umble, and Robbie Guiliano each scored two goals, and Michael Sullivan turned in one goal to go along with a game-high three helpers.

Goalkeepers Adam Hatchard, Isaac Erckert, and Andrew Pea all split time in the net, with Hatchard getting credit for the victory.

Otterbein outshot the Bison 56-10 and won 20 of the 26 face-off opportunities. The Cards were also successful on all 17 of their clear attempts.

The Cardinals return to action next Saturday, March 2 when they host Wittenberg University at Westerville Central High School. Starting time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
