Bonnies Dispatch Coastal Carolina to Remain Unbeaten

CONWAY, S.C. St. Bonaventure (2-0) continued their hot start to the 2013 campaign on Wednesday when they visited Coastal Carolina (0-4). The Bonnies dispatched the Chanticleers by a score of 14-7 after trailing at halftime.

Jenna Schlagenhauf, the reigning Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week, starred again for the Brown and White, scoring four goals on just six shots while also handing out an assist.

Cara Callahan opened up the scoring in this one picking up her fourth score of the season, unassisted with 25:42 to play in the first half. Coastal Carolina tied the score shortly after but Schlagenhauf gave the Bonnies back the lead, 2-1 at the 18:19 mark.

The Chanticleers were determined to keep the advantage on their home turf however as they re-claimed they tied it back up at two with 15:09 to go. The Bonnies would respond with back-to-back scores to take a 4-2 lead courtesy of LeighAnn Stauffer (4) and Schlagenhauf yet again (6). Coastal would however close the half on a 3-0 run to take a 5-4 lead into the break.

Coastal Carolina opened up the scoring in the second half to take a 6-4 lead but the Bonnies had seen enough. Taylor Ventre's goal with 26:41 left in the game ignited 9-0 over the next 17:03 for the Brown and White that put the game out of reach for the Chanticleers. Coastal added a seventh score with 6:10 to play but the Bonnies answered it with 5:29 left to complete the scoring for the day. St. Bonaventure would coast from there to the 14-7 victory.

Taylor Ventre and Marybeth Madia each scored three goals of their own to go with Schlagenhauf's four to lead the Bonnies. Elspeth McGarry added two assists with one goal. Other goal scorers included Cara Callahan, Erin Thomas and LeighAnn Stauffer.

The Bonnies will take a bit of time off before facing off with Delaware State on the road Sunday, Mar. 10.
