Connecticut Knocks off Boston College to Go 2-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. Sophomore Mikaela Rix scored three goals, but Boston College lost to Connecticut, 13-8, on a rain-soaked Newton Campus Lacrosse Field on Wednesday evening.

The Eagles (2-2, 0-0 ACC) used a 3-0 run to open the second half to take their first lead of the game at 8-7, but the Huskies (2-0, 0-0 BE) responded with six straight goals to close the game and earn the win.

Junior Cali Ceglarski recorded a goal, an assist, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls while sophomore Covie Stanwick registered two goals and two assists.

Carly Palmucci paced UConn with four goals while Lauren Kahn and Kacey Pippitt each had three.

The Huskies scored the game's first two goals before Rix rushed into the circle and connected on a shot to make it 2-1 just over 10 minutes into the game. After two more Connecticut goals, BC scored two of their own to pull within 4-3 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the half. Rix scored the first goal before Stanwick found the back of the net off a feed from Rix.

Inside of the last 10 minutes of the first half, UConn outscored BC, 3-2, to bring a 7-6 lead into halftime. During that stretch, junior Moira Barry and Ceglarski off a Stanwick assist scored for the Eagles.

BC began the second half with three straight goals in the period's first 10 minutes to capture an 8-7 advantage. Rix opened the second stanza's scoring off a free position shot before senior Brooke Blue connected on a shot after receiving a pass from Stanwick. Stanwick closed the run on a goal from a free position shot.

The Huskies countered with six unanswered goals to create the final margin. UConn's Palmucci scored twice during the run.

Boston College returns to play at Northwestern on March 6 at 6:00 p.m. ET.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - UConn improved to 2-0 with a 13-8 victory at No. 15 Boston College on Wednesday afternoon. The Huskies secured the first victory over a ranked team since winning at No. 18 Stanford on March 4, 2007.

Freshman Carly Palmucci led the way with four goals and one assist for five points. Juniors Lauren Kahn and Kacey Pippitt each added three goals. Kahn led all players with four caused turnovers and two groundballs.

Freshman keeper Shannon Nee made eight saves to earn the victory.

The two teams went back and forth leading to an 8-7 BC advantage with 20:24 remaining in the second half. UConn then rallied for six straight goals to earn the marquee road victory.

Palmucci and Pippitt gave UConn a 2-0 lead just 6:04 into the contest. Following a BC goal, Kahn and freshman Alexandra Crofts each scored to give UConn a 4-1 lead, its largest of the first half.

After two straight tallies from BC at 15:24 and 18:46 to make it 4-3 in favor of UConn, the two teams traded goals the rest of the half to finish with UConn ahead, 7-5.

Boston College notched three straight to open the second and half and take an 8-7 lead before the Huskies went on the game-deciding run.

During the decisive 6-0 run, Kahn and Palmucci each tallied two goals with Pippitt and Catherine Gross finding the net as well.

UConn will look for the fourth 3-0 start in program history when the Huskies travel to Hamden, Conn. to face Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 2 at 12:00 p.m.
