Marymount Drops Close Decision at Messiah

Grantham, Pa. Marymount University's men's lacrosse team dropped a close 13-11 decision on the road at Messiah on Wednesday night. The Saints even their record to 1-1 on the season with the loss.

Five different Saints scored a pair of goals on the night. Vince Lodato, Ian Gordon, Connor Kellogg, Nico Burns and Jimmy Wendell all found the back of the net twice while Jack Burke posted a lone goal.

Lodato also assisted on two goals with Gordon, Kellogg and Max Johnson each added another.

Both teams played to a 2-2 draw through the first quarter before Messiah (1-1) outscored the Saints 5-1 in the second to take a 7-3 lead going into halftime.

Marymount's offense exploded in the third, outscoring the Falcons 7-1 in the frame including five unanswered goals to close the period with three coming in the span of 55 seconds.

In the fourth, Messiah clamped down and tied the game in the first five minutes of action. The Falcons went on to score the next three goals to lead 13-10 while holding MU to a lone late goal to seal the win.

Defensively, Derek DiGiovanni (1-1) collected 13 saves for the second-straight game. He added four ground balls on the night for the Blue and White.

Gordon led the Saints with eight ground balls while Michael Bitoni collected four and Johnson and Chris Madison both grabbed three.

Marymount was perfect on the penalty kill, holding the Falcons scoreless on five extra-man opportunities. Conversely, the Saints converted 2 of 3 extra-man opportunities with both man up goals coming from Burns.

Kyle Sproles, Will Franken and Keith Hupecky led Messiah with two goals each.

Marymount returns to action on Saturday, March 8, at home against Washington & Jefferson. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
