Bulldogs Bite the Tigers for Fifth Victory

Sewanee, TN -- Redlands rattled off 10 goals during each half en route to a 20-9 triumph at Sewanee on Thursday in the first of a two-game road-stint during spring break.

Led by four goals apiece from junior midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA), freshman midfielder Stephanie Garrett (San Diego, CA), and senior attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA), the Bulldogs put together their highest offensive output of the season.

After two quick scores by the Tigers, Redlands answered with five consecutive goals through the 15:28-mark of the first stanza. All of these came by way of free-position shots, with Craycraft and Garrett converting two each and senior midfielder Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) finding the back of the net on one occasion.

Over the next three minutes, Sewanee responded with back-to-back netters of its own to cut its deficit to one at 4-5.

Following a timeout by Head Coach Suzette Soboti, sophomore attack player Elizabeth Keilty (Yorba Linda, CA) stepped up with a critical goal for the Maroon and Gray, extending the lead back to two.

Over the next five minutes, the Bulldogs held off four scoring attempts by the opponents before taking the ball coast-to-coast for Dewan's first score of the game, which came with 5:27 left in the stanza.

Eighteen seconds later, Craycraft completed a first-half hat trick when she connected on a pass from junior attack player Allie Hoffler (Draper, UT).

Sewanee pulled one back at the 2:42-mark, but Redlands' Garrett fired off her third netter of the half just 14 seconds later.

Craycraft closed out the frame by converting another free-position shot for the Bulldogs, making it 10-5 at the halftime break.

The Maroon and Gray continued to pour on the offense during the second stanza, with Dewan scoring the team's first two goals in the opening eight minutes.

Leading by a score of 12-6, the Bulldogs unleashed four consecutive netters to earn a 10-goal advantage by the midway point of the half. Dewan, Hoffler, Garrett and junior midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR) accounted for this spurt of offense, with Craycraft and sophomore midfielder Emily Dalrymple (Snohomish, WA) providing assists.

Sophomore attack player Maggie Lehr (Kirkland, WA) and junior midfielder Molly Eckert (Houston, TX) capped off the impressive barrage of goals for the Maroon and Gray, resulting in the 20-9 victory.

The Maroon and Gray won the draw-control battle with a 17-12 margin, with Garrett leading the cause with seven.

Graduate student goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) patrolled the Redlands cage for most of the game, amassing six saves in her fifth win of the season.

The Bulldogs (5-1) face off against Carthage College (WI) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Pacific Time in Sewanee, TN. Carthage is guided by a pair of former Bulldogs in Head Coach Lauren Hume and Assistant Coach Amy Gulbranson.
