Delaware Names Biciocchi as Team Captain

NEWARK, Del. Third-year University of Delaware head coach Kateri Linville recently announced senior Angela Biciocchi as team captain and one of four members on the team's leadership council.

Biciocchi, a current senior, has garnered 2013 Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association, 2012 first team All-CAA, and second team Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors over the last two seasons.

"Angela is a top performer for us," remarked Linville. "Beyond her athletic talents, Angela's strengths include the ability to communicate and lead in pressure situations. The team relies on her to lead the way on game days with both her experience and competitive spirit. They trust her knowledge of the game and ability to make big plays."

The leadership council is comprised of a group of individuals who have been identified by their teammates and the coaching staff as emerging leaders of the program. Each of these individuals has established herself as a top performer and, equally important, has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to leading the program to the next level.

Each class is represented on the leadership council led by Biciocchi, junior Alex Alois, sophomore Caitlin McCartney, and freshman Abby Wheble.

The Blue Hens have also established internal leadership groups that encompass the areas of performance, organization, locker room, and social. All of the upperclassmen play an active role in developing a championship culture on and off the field at Delaware.

In addition, the freshmen participate in the Jeff Janssen Leadership Program to develop individual skills so they are ready to step up and lead as upperclassmen.

"I appreciate the daily efforts from all team members to be the best student-athletes they can be," Linville stated. "I also greatly appreciate the time my staff puts into developing the talent and leadership skills in all of our student-athletes."

The Blue Hens continue their quest for a Colonial Athletic Association title tomorrow as they head to La Salle for a 7:00 p.m. draw.
