USM Announces Men's Lacrosse Captains

GORHAM, Maine Southern Maine head coach Sam Lane announced recently that four players will serve as captains for the 2013 season. Seniors Kyle Baker (Kennebunk, Maine), Kayle Hamilton (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and Mark White (Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas), along with junior Dylan Kenney (Portland, Maine/Portland) will lead the Huskies' 31-player roster.

This will be Baker and Kenney's first turn as a captain while White is in his second tour. Hamilton, a fifth-year senior, is in his fourth season as a captain.

White, a fourth-year midfielder, was the Huskies' leading scorer last season with 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 points in 16 games. Kenney, a defender, was an All-Little East Conference first team selection last spring scoring 16 goals and passing out three assists.

The Huskies' offense should get a boost this spring with the return of Baker and Hamilton. Baker, an All-Little East Conference second-team pick at midfield in 2011 after tallying 22 goals and 11 assists, was not in school last spring. Hamilton, a midfielder, missed the entire 2012 season due to an injury. He had 17 goals and eight assists in the 2012 campaign.

The Huskies, 6-10 overall and 3-4 in LEC play last spring, open their 16-game schedule this Saturday (March 2) when they travel to Castleton State College for a non-conference game. The Huskies' home opener at Hannaford Field will be March 16 against Maine Maritime Academy. They begin Little East Conference play on March 30, at home, against perennial power Keene State College.
