No. 2 Florida to Face No. 4 Syracuse at Orange Bowl Classic

GAINESVILLE, Fla. No. 2 Florida will head south for a Saturday evening game with No. 4 Syracuse in the Orange Bowl Classic at Sun Life Stadium in Miami. Opening draw is set for 5:00 p.m. on Sun Sports.

UF brings a six-game win streak into Saturday's contest, which will be the first ever women's college lacrosse game at the Orange Bowl Classic. The two teams meet for the first time in eight months since the Orange eliminated the Gators in a 14-13 overtime win in the NCAA Final Four. SU went on to the national championship game and finishing runner-up to Northwestern.

Florida is currently led by senior attack Ashley Bruns (Ellicot City, Md.) with 18 points (13 goals, five assists) and senior attack Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) and sophomore midfielder Shannon Gilroy (Northport, N.Y.) with 16 points each. Gilroy leads the team with 13 draw controls while senior defender Emily Dohony (Parkville, Md.) has picked up 14 ground balls in six games. UF comes into the contest as one of 26 teams in the country to remain undefeated while posting a tied for 10th scoring defense (5.67gp) and 11th in scoring margin (8.00 gpg.).

The Gators went 3-0 in action last week with wins over then-No.18/19 Stony Brook, UC Davis and UAlbany all at Dizney Stadium. Highlights from the three games included scoring 16 or more goals in each game, holding their opponent to an average of 6.66 goals per game and Gilroy grabbing a single-game program-high eight draw controls against UAlbany.

Syracuse holds a 2-1 lead in the series with both wins coming in the 2012 season including an 11-9 overtime win at Donald R. Dizney Stadium. They returned 10 starters for 2013 including five of their top six scorers from a season ago. The Orange is led by junior attack Alyssa Murray (10 goals, three assists) and senior attack Michelle Tumolo (six goals, five assists). Freshman attack/midfielder Kayla Treanor has made her presence known in just three game as she has chipped in nine goals so far. Syracuse is coming off a come-from-behind 10-9 win over No. 8 Virginia on Sunday. They also defeated Jacksonville in both team's season opener on Jan. 13 and fell in their home opener to then No. 4 Maryland 19-11 on Feb. 17.

Both teams are ranked in the top 10 for the third-straight meeting. Florida was the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament while Syracuse was No. 4 while in the regular season meeting the Gators came in at No. 4 and the Orange at No. 9.
