Strong First Half Carries No. 5 Adelphi by Molloy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. No. 5 Adelphi recorded a 17-12 win on the road over the Lions of Molloy in a non-conference contest on Friday night. An insurmountable 10 first half Panther goals proved to be enough of an effort to come away with the victory despite being outscored 8-7 in the second frame. With the win, the Panthers improve to 2-0 on the season while the Lions drop to 1-2.

For the Brown and Gold, Devan Crimi and Rachel O'Brien led all scorers with five goals apiece while O'Brien also was credited with two assists and three ground balls. Alexa Froccaro tallied three points on two goals and one dish to compliment her three ground balls while Sara Sangiorgio chipped in with three scores of her own.

Melyssa Matthewson and Lauren Janelli each had a goal in the win. Newcomer Camille Rosellini added one assist and scooped up a game high four ground balls. In goal, Jordann Dempsey picked up her second win as she logged the 30 minute opening half in cage, allowing four goals and making one stop. Teammates Taylor Hayes and Taylor Langston picked up duties in the second half and allowed eight goals, seven of which were on Hayes.

Molloy's Katie O'Brien and Kelly Kaitlynn each put in three goals while Nicole Mastrianni added four points on an even split of two goals and as many assists. Candice Noakes picked up a score and two assists while Christie Roell had one goal and one assist. Lianne Scorcia and Codi Reiser chipped in with one goal each. Caroline Winters was the losing goalie as she logged all 60 minutes, made 18 saves and let in all 17 goals.

O'Brien's first goal of the contest came just 1:44 into action, putting the Panthers on top early. Her effort was followed by a man-up goal by Froccaro and then three straight scores by Crimi, Janelli and Sangiorgio to make it a 5-0 affair with 19:36 on the clock. Molloy finally got on the board at the 16:59 mark from Kelly, but the Panthers responded with four more unanswered goals to lead 9-1.

Molloy managed to get three back but still found themselves down by a score of 10-5 at the midway point.

Both sides traded three goals each in the opening 9:54 of the second frame to keep it a seven point game. Molloy threatened with four straight goals over the ensuing 3:04 thanks to the efforts of O'Brien and Kelly who each found the back of the cage on two occasions, cutting the Panther lead to three.

O'Brien put Adelphi back up by four with her third score of the game and then returned a Mastrianni scored by beating Winters on two more occasions to close the books on the Panthers second win of the season by way of a 17-12 score.

In total, the Panthers led 19-9 in ground balls, 17-14 in draw controls, and 44-16 in total shots. Molloy recorded a crippling 18 turnovers to Adelphi's six.

The Panthers return to action on Saturday, March 2 as they travel to American International to open the Northeast-10 portion of their schedule with a 12:00 p.m. contest.
