Frostburg State Rallies to Top Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Four fourth-quarter goals by Frostburg State cost Lebanon Valley as the Bobcats rallied to win 8-6 Saturday at Arnold Field.

The Dutchmen (1-1) ran up against a hot goalkeeper in Tyler Haines, who had 16 saves, and the Bobcats (3-0) had two fourth-quarter goals apiece by Ryan Serio and Spenser Love to break open a 4-4 game.

Malik Pedroso led LVC with two goals and two assists, while Ryan Lanigan had one each. Serio and Spenser did all the scoring for Frostburg, with Serio netting five and Serio a hat trick.

Serio and Pedroso traded goals in the first before Pedroso finished an acrobatic catch-and-shoot from a breaking Lanigan to open the second. Love made it 2-2, and Serio scored twice around Lanigan's goal - all three inside 1:34 left - to give Frostburg a 4-3 lead at halftime.

Alex Beard scored the only goal of the third quarter, converting from Jordan Mayr man-up to tie it at 4-4, but the Bobcats scored three goals in a 3:05 span early in the fourth to take control of the game. Ian Schmid tallied man-up at 4:56 from Pedroso, but Love answered that before Andrew Dennison scored a late consolation goal to finish it at 8-6.

Mike Moll was excellent in cage for LVC with 12 saves, but fell victim to some wild shots by the Bobcats, including a sitting scoop shot by Serio on his fourth goal.

A penalty-filled game saw neither side take full advantage of its chances, with LVC going 2 for 11 on man-up opportunities and Frostburg State 2 for 7. That included LVC killing a two-minute penalty in the third quarter and Frostburg not allowing a goal being three-down later in the third.

LVC outshot its guests 33-29, and held Frostburg to 21 for 30 on clear attempts. Lanigan caused six turnovers with seven ground balls to lead the defense, tying the LVC single-game caused turnover mark.

Lebanon Valley continues its season Wednesday at Centenary.
