Angell's Seven Goals Help W&J Roll Over La Roche

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Sophomore attacker Tim Angell (Andover, Mass./Governor's Academy) racked up nine points with seven goals and two assists to lead Washington & Jefferson's 19-7 victory over La Roche Saturday in the Presidents' 2013 home opener at Alexandre Stadium.

The Presidents (2-1) scored six goals in each of the final three quarters to pull away from the Redhawks (0-3).

The teams were tied 3-3 midway through the second quarter, but W&J exploded for four goals in the final 5:23 of the first half, two of which were fired in by freshman midfielder Zachary Fredericks (Babylon, N.Y./Babylon).

The Redhawks bounced back with two quick goals to open the third quarter, but the Presidents netted six of the next seven to take command. Angell scored three times during the spurt and W&J cruised to its first home win under first-year Head Coach Daniel Usaj.

Senior attacker Joseph Eck (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) had another big game for Washington & Jefferson with five goals and two assists, while sophomore midfielder Will Wagner (Riva, Md./South River) scored once and added a pair of assists. Eight different Presidents scored during the victory.

Sophomore goalie Conor Crowe (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) earned the win after making eight saves in the first half. He was relieved during the second half by senior Ran Kirby (Cleveland, Ohio/University School), who notched seven stops.

W&J outshot the Redhawks 46-38 and scored three times on seven extra-man chances.

Jon Monahan and Blaine Schaffner both had two goals for LC. Eugene LaBorde made 14 saves in the loss.

W&J heads back on the road for a Wednesday night game at Wooster (7:00 pm).
