Cobleskill Doubles Up Mount Saint Vincent

Riverdale, N.Y. Mount Saint Vincent was dealt its first loss of the season on Saturday night following an 8-4 defeat at the hands of visiting Cobleskill. John Petito (Staten Island, N.Y.) led the Mount with three points, and Kyle Kalibat (Oceanside, N.Y.) finished the night with 11 saves in goal.

Mount Saint Vincent never led in the game and quickly fell behind by two goals after the Tigers scored with the man advantage twice in the first eight minutes of play. Dan Scott picked up both goals to give the visitors the early advantage.

The Dolphins answered with the next two tallies to even the score at 2-2 after 15 minutes of play. Petito got the Mount on the board with his first of the night at the 4:34 mark and Matt Desimone (Congers, N.Y.) finished off a feed from Pat McEnaney (New York, N.Y.) with 1:02 left in the period to being the Dolphins even.

The visitors would gain some breathing room in the second quarter after outscoring the Mount 4-0. Thomas Farone scored half of the Tigers' goals in the period and Scott added his third goal of the half with 1:48 left in the stanza to send Cobleskill to the intermission with a 6-2 lead.

After behind outscored by four goals in the first 30 minutes on Saturday, the Mount came out in the third period and struck twice inside the first five and a half minutes to slice its deficit to 6-4. Petito scored off an assist from Jose Benitez (Floral Park, N.Y.) at the 10:44 mark and then Desimone registered his second of the game off a pass from Petito at 9:36.

Desimone's tally would be the final goal of the night for the Dolphins, as the Tigers scored two more times with the man advantage to secure the win. Austin Fragele scored both goals for the visitors who moved to 1-0 on the season.

Petito and Desimone did all the scoring for the Dolphins on Saturday, with Miller Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) adding an assist. Bruce Pappas (Montrose, N.Y.) picked up four groundballs and Derek Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went 9 for 13 in face-offs.

Eric Randazzo made the start in goal for Cobleskill and made 13 stops, including five in the third quarter, to earn the win. He also picked up two groundballs. Kalibat made 11 saves for the Dolphins to go along with five groundballs and a caused turnover.

Andrew Delvalle led Cobleskill with five groundballs and joined Ryan Kissane with three caused turnovers. Josh Wimun won four face-offs for the visitors on the night.

For the game, Mount Saint Vincent held the advantage in shots 34-28, with the Tigers securing one more groundball with 27. The Dolphins finished the night winning 11 of the 15 face-offs taken.

With the loss Mount Saint Vincent falls back to the .500 mark at 1-1 overall on the season. Next on the schedule is a home date with Alvernia on March 9. Face-off at Tibbetts Brook Park is set for 1:00 p.m.
