Old Westbury Women's Lacrosse Set for Inaugural Season

SUNY College at Old Westbury head coach Lauren Schneider is pleased to introduce her inaugural roster for the 2013 season, which features 15 student-athletes. The Panthers were picked to finish ninth out of 11 in the 2013 Skyline Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.

Schneider, a former All-American standout at Maryland, and assistant coach Brianna Day, a former standout at SUNY Albany, sculpted a roster featuring three freshmen, four sophomores, three juniors and five seniors.

The transfers for the Panthers include junior midfielder Jessica Walker (Franklin Square, NY) and senior goalie/attacker Sara Braverman (Westbury, NY). Walker featured in 28 games in two seasons for Mount Saint Mary, started in 15 games while recording 21 ground balls at a rate of .75 per game. While with Mount Saint Mary, Walker appeared in back-to-back Skyline Conference Championship tournaments. Braverman played at Nassau Community College for two seasons.

Helping to fill out the 2013 roster are nine members of fall and winter athletic teams at Old Westbury, including five from soccer (Cristina Kettell, JoAnna Kettell, Anna Noens, Jordan Schildt, Caitlin Thomas), two from swimming (Lydia Coleman, Janet Marmol), one each from basketball (Abigail Williams) and volleyball (Courtney Gallagher). Cristina Kettell (Hauppauge, NY) was also a member of the cross country team.

Schneider's freshmen include midfielders Gallagher and Cindy Darius (Brooklyn, NY), and attacker/midfieder Gabriella DiPierno (Elmont, NY). Sophomores feature attacker/midfielder Janet Marmol (Syosset, NY), midfielder Anna Noens (Selden, NY), attacker Jordan Schildt (East Yaphank, NY) and defender/midfielder Caitlin Thomas (Patchogue, NY). Junior defender Jacqueline Cartagena (Bay Shore, NY) and classmate midfielder/defender Michelle Rodriguez (Brentwood, NY) will give the Panthers added depth for the first year program. Rounding out the roster are seniors Cristina and JoAnna Kettell (Hauppauge, NY), Lydia Coleman (Roslyn Heights, NY) and Abigail Williams (Brooklyn, NY).

The 17-game schedule includes six home games from Panther Park, including a match-up against defending Skyline Conference Champion Montclair State. Old Westbury's season opener kicks off March 2 with a neutral site battle against Roger Williams from St. Joseph's College-L.I. Outdoor Athletic Complex.

Old Westbury hits the road to face Centenary (Mar. 5) and Bard (Mar. 9) before arriving back on campus for a five-game home stand, on March 11 when they host Farmingdale State in their first ever Skyline Conference game. The Farmingdale State game will be followed by home contests against Manhattanville (Mar. 13), Montclair State (Mar. 16), United States Merchant Marine Academy (Mar. 19) and Mount Saint Vincent (Mar. 21).

The stretch of home games will end when the Panthers travel to Newburgh, New York on March 23 to face Mount Saint Mary. Following the game against the Knights, Old Westbury will return home on March 25 to face Purchase to wrap up their home slate.

Old Westbury's final seven games are on the road, starting with conference battles against Sage (Mar. 27) and Ramapo (Apr. 2) before concluding their non-conference schedule at Wilkes (Apr. 4) and Vassar (Apr. 9).

The Panthers will close the year with three consecutive Skyline Conference games, starting at St. Joseph's-L.I. on April 14. Old Westbury will travel to Kean on April 18 before closing the regular season at Maritime on April 20.
