Old Westbury Falls in Inaugural Game to Roger Williams

PATCHOGUE, NY - The SUNY College at Old Westbury team broke the seal on a new era in Panther athletics on March 2 in Patchogue, New York. The Panthers and the Roger Williams Hawks faced off in the first-ever lacrosse game for Old Westbury.

Up against a tough challenge, Old Westbury fought hard against the Hawks but finished on the short end of a 21-2 result. Courtney Gallagher led the Panthers with both goals and collected all six of Old Westbury's draw controls and three ground balls.

The Hawks scored 12 unanswered goals to open the contest before Gallagher netted the program's first score with 12:39 remaining in the opening half. She added one more late in the second half.

Danielle Neagle led Roger Williams with six goals and Kelsey Rahilly and Kristen Pingree each followed with three for the Hawks. Rahilly added five assists while Lauren Piotrowski tallied four.

The Hawks out-shot the Panthers, 40-6, in the game. Old Westbury's Sara Braverman posted an incredible 11 saves while Justine Sullivan made two saves and earned the win for Roger Williams.

Old Westbury returns to the hardwood for a non-conference road battle on Tuesday (Mar. 5) afternoon, taking on the Centenary Cyclones in Hackettstown, New Jersey. Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m. from Cyclone Field.
